Formative designed Flock of Moons’ inaugural taproom—a “grown-up” craft brewery bar in the beloved Bricklight District.
Flock of Moons brewery is designed to honor the nostalgia of the Bricklight District.
Elements of the original 1940s building were either saved or replicated.
The wood floors are refinished, and the old tin ceiling is replicated in a deep blue to reflect the brewery’s branding and night sky.
The name of the craft brewery was derived from a historic text written by Benjamin Franklin.
Seeing a “flock of moons” upon exiting an establishment was just one of his 200 clever anecdotes to express a person’s level of intoxication.
Inspired by this playful namesake, the design team used this imagery and branding, along with the history of the space, to influence the lighting, color palette, and textures.
The bar and taps are served by a new hoist and expansive beer cooler installed directly below in the old basement.
Beyond the bar, a glass garage door opens to patio seating.
Windows from the tap room offer a glimpse into the adjacent brewery so guests can witness the beer-making process first-hand.
“He’s seen a flock of moons.” ~ Benjamin Franklin
