Located in the high mountains of the Moreno Valley Eagle Nest Lake State Park offers a cool retreat for fisherman, boaters, campers, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts.
The new 1,600sf comfort station serves as the central hub for the campground.
It provides restroom and shower facilities as well as a covered outdoor area where people can gather and be protected from the elements.
The area’s historic mining towns inspired the exterior cladding. Locally harvested and milled beetle kill pine harkens back to the wood siding found on many historic structures, while the comfort station’s metallic colored standing seam roof resembles old sloped tin roofs.
Additionally, the design utilizes bird safe glazing and photovoltaics.
The design creatively incorporates existing infrastructure, reusing the park’s vault toilets in the restroom to avoid costly and needless demolition.
New shower facilities offer additional amenities to improve campers’ experience.
The comfort station will be under construction in 2023 as part of a series of improvements that will support Eagle Nest Lake State Park’s recreational and conservation needs.
